Vangaveeti Ranga (4 July 1948 – 26 December 1988) was an Indian politician from Andhra Pradesh.

He represented Vijayawada East assembly constituency as a member of Indian National Congress.

Early life

Ranga was born in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, India, on July 4, 1948. His father, Vangaveeti Venkata Ratnam, was a businessman and his mother, Vangaveeti Lakshmi, was a homemaker.

Ranga had two older brothers, Vangaveeti Radha Krishna and Vangaveeti Mohan Rao.

Ranga attended the Government Arts College in Vijayawada, where he was involved in student politics.

He was a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a Hindu nationalist organization.

Political career

Ranga entered politics after the death of his elder brother, Vangaveeti Radha Krishna Sr., in 1979. Radha Krishna was a popular politician and was assassinated by his rivals.

Ranga took over his brother’s political legacy and became the leader of the United Independent Organization (UIO).

Ranga contested his first election in 1981.

He won the election convincingly and became a popular leader in the city.

In 1985, Ranga contested the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly election from the Vijayawada East constituency.

He won the election by a large margin and became an MLA.

Ranga was a popular leader and was known for his charisma and his ability to connect with the masses.

He is a strong advocate for the rights of the poor and the underprivileged.

Assassination

In December 26 1988, Ranga assasined by rivals when he is in campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections.
